NO FRIES album (2006)

NO FRIES album cover

The "No Fries" album was launched purely as a demo CD of some new songs that I had produced in a bit of a songwriting spurt in 2006.
The instrumental was commissioned for a video, and the only song I've performed live is "England, England", about half a dozen times, although that's partly because the songs were all a bit too 'pop'-ish for singing in folk clubs.

1 England, England

2 Happy Man

3 He Shoots, He Scores

4 Just a Little Smile

5 No Fries (instrumental)

6 Somewhere Without Me

LYRICS

England, England

©2005 L. Moran

I followed her to New York. She said she had to go.
It seemed a great adventure, we were young, in love, and so,
I upped and left my roots, and headed for the setting sun,
But still the old place calls to me, it wants me to come home

England, England, it's always home to me,
England, England, wherever I may be,
England, England, sometimes it's hard to bear,
England, England, my heart is always there.

She said we would be happy, in the town that doesn't sleep.
She said it would be fun and laughs, no time to sit and weep.
She said that she would have such fun, and so it proved to be,
For pretty soon she'd taken up with someone and left me.

Ch.

I found myself abandoned, in a place I never chose,
Three thousand miles away from home. That's life, though, I suppose.
I got myself together, but nearly went back home,
The call of home is powerful, when you're all alone.

Ch.

So here I am across the sea, in a land that's not my own,
I've got a new life over here, no longer am alone.
A new love may have filled my life, but still it's not the same,
In my mind I still cross the sea, to the pub or to the game.

Happy Man

©2006 L. Moran

The rain may pour or it may be grey,
But that's not gonna spoil my day.
I don't care, come rain or shine,
Now I know that you are mine.

Nothing can take away my grin,
In the happy state I'm in,
I just don't care, come rain or shine,
Now I know that you are mine.

I am a happy man,
You know that I'm your greatest fan,
I am a happy man.
Happy man.

We may have good times, may have bad,
But we'll be happy, never sad,
There may be ups, there may be downs,
But life is great with you around.

You're part of me, I'm part of you,
Without you, don't know what I'd do,
Always laughter, never frowns,
All the time that you're around.

Ch

I go to work, but always I'm
Thinking of you, all of the time,
The clock goes slow, all afternoon,
I'm knowing I'll be seeing you soon.

We've got plans and they'll be just great.
Whatever we do, I can't wait.
Don't need to step outside the door.
I've got you, so who needs more.

Seeing you each day and night,
Makes me feel life is so right,
I know that you feel the same way too,
What a future, me and you.

Ch

He Shoots, He Scores

©2005 L. Moran

Saturday's the evening - when Jack's out on the town.
He doesn't go out early. He goes on his own.
He doesn't have much money. He doesn't have a car,
But he is like a magnet for those who wear a bra.

He shoots, he scores, he celebrates.
He shoots, he scores, makes no mistakes.
He shoots, he scores, he celebrates.
He shoots, he scores, has what it takes.

He's not what you'd call handsome. He's not what you'd call light.
His hair won't last much longer. His stomach is a sight.
No sooner does he walk in - but girls are crowding round,
And before too long he'll have them eating from his hand.

ch

I would like to be like him, I'd love to have the knack,
But a skill with women is something that I lack…

ch

I like to hang out with him, to learn what makes him tick,
Hoping that it rubs off, and I'll get my own chick.
I wish he'd over-reach himself - giving me the chance,
To help him out by offering to take one off his hands.

ch

Maybe one day it will come and I will get the knack,
But until that day I'll have to keep an eye on Jack…

Just a Little Smile

©2006 L. Moran

It was just a little smile, it appeared and then was gone,
It was just the merest hint, you and I would still go on.
If I ever needed proof, that still you felt the same,
Just that tiny little smile said it all when it came.

We don't even need to talk, just one look is all it takes,
It's the little signs I seek and I find them in your face.
Though the words may all be true, and our love may well be strong,
The truth is in your smile, and your eyes they sing a song.

Your face gives you away.
It's there for all to see.
The words that you don't say,
They mean so much to me.

It was just a little glance, just a fleeting little look.
It said I had a chance, I was still in your good book.
And I knew right there and then, that you'd be the one for me.
Just that tiny little glance said it so expressively.

We don't even need to talk, just one look is all it takes.
It's the little signs I seek and I find them in your face,
Though the words may all be true and our love may well be strong,
The truth is in your smile and your eyes they sing a song.

The truth is in your smile and your eyes they sing a song.

Somewhere Without Me

© 2005 L. Moran

Now the time has come for you to move on in your life,
And you and I must part.
Now the time has come for you to cut me like a knife,
That's piercing my heart.

I know that this is final, but still I live in hope,
And I'll put on a brave face, and make out that I'll cope,
But worst of all, is knowing that you will always be,
Living your life somewhere else,
Somewhere without me.

Somewhere you'll be happy,
Somewhere you'll be free,
Where you'll still be wonderful,
Somewhere without me.

Now the time has come for you to spread your wings and fly,
And leave me on my own.
Now the time has come for you to leave me here to cry,
And stay here alone.

I know that this is final, but still I live in hope,
And I'll put on a brave face, and make out that I'll cope,
But worst of all, is knowing that you will always be,
Living your life somewhere else,
Somewhere without me.

Somewhere you'll be happy,
Somewhere you'll be free,
Where you'll still be wonderful,
Somewhere without me.
